Tanner

Hired with a work contract, the tanner works at a vanilla cauldron. It makes leather out of what other workers have no use for, rabbit hide and the Rotten Flesh rotten flesh your guards bring home, and makes leather goods of it: books, leather armor in the color of your village, bundles, saddles.

Note

Ordinary (not hired) villagers still become vanilla leatherworkers at cauldrons. A vanilla leatherworker can be hired directly: it stays at its cauldron, keeps its trades and becomes the tanner of this mod. The tanner trades like a vanilla leatherworker.

Setting it up

  1. Place a cauldron and right-click it with an empty hand: its overview opens.
  2. Link an input chest with the material and an output chest.
  3. Tab Leather Order: click the products (up to 8, made in equal parts), set the stock and the color.
  4. Give it its wage and a Bucket bucket, so it can fill the cauldron itself (water within 16 blocks; rain fills it too).

It uses leather from its input chest first, then makes it of rabbit hide (from the butcher's rabbits), then tans rotten flesh.

Tanning

Up to 16 rotten flesh go into the water of the cauldron, which takes one level of water. After five minutes (half a Minecraft day) they are leather: 4 rotten flesh, 1 leather. Meanwhile the tanner does its other work. Bubbles rise from the cauldron while it tans, and the menu shows how long it takes. If you break the cauldron, what is in it drops.

This is not in vanilla. It can be switched off in the configuration.

Colors

Below the stock you pick a color (< and >). The tanner dyes all leather armor it makes in that color, with the Red Dye dye from its input chest, one per piece.

Leather armor of another color in its input chest it washes out in the cauldron (one level of water each, like you would) and dyes again, also without an order. So you can change the color of the village at any time.

Uniforms for the guards

Guards put on armor from a village chest. A guard in a leather tunic wears its tabard in the color of the tunic: dye the tunics red and all your guards wear red. Put the tanner's output chest next to the guards' village chest, or make it a village chest.

The menu shows how many of the order it made today.
