Fisher¶
Hired with a work contract, the fisher works at a vanilla barrel. It fishes at the water near the barrel and brings the catch to a chest. Give it a boat and it rows out onto a lake or the sea and fishes there.
Note
Ordinary (not hired) villagers still become vanilla fishermen at barrels. A vanilla fisherman can be hired directly: it stays at its barrel, keeps its trades and becomes the fisher of this mod. The fisher trades like a vanilla fisherman.
Setting it up¶
- Place a barrel near the water: a pond, a river, a lake or the sea.
- Open the barrel: the tabs above its screen lead to the overview. The barrel itself stays a normal barrel for you.
- Link at least one chest (+ Chest).
- Right-click the fisher with its wage (emeralds) and a fishing rod; for trips out on the water also a boat.
Without a chest or a rod the fisher does not work.
From the shore¶
The fisher walks to the closest bank of water within 16 blocks of the barrel (4 blocks up or down; a pond of a few blocks is enough), casts and waits for a bite, 5 to 30 seconds like a player. You see its bobber on the water with the line to the rod; when a fish bites, the bobber dips, the fisher reels in and the catch flies out of the water to it: mostly fish, sometimes junk, from the vanilla fishing loot. After 12 catches it brings them to the chest and goes again.
In the boat¶
If it carries a boat and there is open water within 32 blocks of the barrel (at least 7 × 7 blocks of water, two deep, with only water on the way there):
- it puts the boat on the water at a bank of that water (also if a pond is closer to the barrel) and gets in,
- rows out to the open water,
- fishes there; on open water it also catches treasure (enchanted books, bows, name tags, saddles, ...), like a player,
- rows back with its 12 catches, gets out, takes the boat with it and brings the catch to the chest.
It finishes the trip even after work: it never stays out on the water at night. Switch the trips off in the overview, tab Settings: Row out in a boat On / Off.
Good to know¶
- The rod wears out like a player's, one use per catch. A plain rod is used until it breaks; an enchanted or renamed rod the fisher gives back shortly before, into a village chest or the chest of the barrel (see Worn tools), so you can repair it at an anvil, or the smith with bottles o' enchanting. A rod with Lure gets bites sooner, one with Luck of the Sea catches more treasure.
- Rods and boats it takes from a village chest too.
- It hands in everything it catches; only its rods and its boat it keeps.
